But sometimes the usage of social media can become draining and affect us negatively. I also think it’s possible to feel and carry on other people’s energy via social media. For example, have you ever read or heard a sad story that was posted on social media and you automatically begin to imagine how the person involved or effected is feeling? Yea I’ve done that too and for the last few weeks, I’ve experienced taking on other people's energy by simply viewing other people’s stories, posts, captions, comments, etc. It gets overbearing at times.

Lets not also forget the increased presence of hot button issues such as coronavirus, using sage is demonic, biphobia, the presidential candidates, a remake of the Cinderella film, but with a genderless fairy godmother, and more. Sometimes social media feels like one of those big group chats that you’re in, but you have it on mute because its just too much! But, I still haven’t logged out or deleted any of my social apps in order to recollect myself. Why you ask? Before I do, I wanted to share my experiences with you and to see if you experienced the same things. So here’s some signs that might indicate you need a break from social media: 1. You have FOMO FOMO is real and for some reason I feel like I’m going to miss something. When I’m not active on social media...I always wonder what's going on & then when I do check my account, I quickly learn that I missed nothing at all. Just memes, motivational quotes, and tik tok videos. 2. You're tired of seeing the same content...all day...everyday This could simply be fixed if you were to just follow new people or to make your timeline diverse. But If you’re like me and you are tired of logging on and seeing one of your followers daily routine that they post every monday at 11 AM or if the people you follow post the same thing all the time, you might need to take a break….or you might need to unfollow them lol. 3. You spend hours liking and refreshing your timeline and it shows Every time I have free time, a lunch break, or when I’m bored, I get on social media and keep liking and refreshing my timeline until I have something else to do! All that energy I put into being on social media double tapping and commenting, I could've used spending time with God, cleaning my space, preparing myself for the next work week, planning, creating, or better yet resting lol. 4. You feel like you have to post something just because I hate that I’m like this but I have the urge to post something everyday & if I don’t do it, I feel out of place. Now you can see why some people say social media is a drug, some people need their daily dosage of likes and comments! 5. You are consuming other people's issues/energy & its wearing you down Words have power and we know this for a fact! When you are reading or listening to other people’s posts, you are very well picking up their energy and you probably don’t even know that person. Let’s not mention those people who post every single thing that happens in their life on social media. (I don’t understand it either). You can very well pick up what they’re experiencing just by reading it and taking it in! But with that being said, if you feel like you’re carrying something heavy or you are exhausted, it might just be that you picked up other people’s problems energetically and mentally via social media. 6. You know for a fact that you need a break from social media but you just wont This is one of the most obvious signs. You know you’re tired of social media, you need to detox for a bit, but you still haven’t deleted the app or logged off. Just do it, take a break and recenter yourself. I promise you can catch up on anything once you come back. Start off by taking a few days or maybe a week and get your energy levels back on track.
